Mr. Evans was born the son of Edward Evans and Louise Alford Evans on August 20, 1940 in Andrews. He was a retired employee of Georgetown Steel Mill and was a United States Army Veteran. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Nascar fan. He was a former member of the Sandy Island Hunting Club, Givans Neck Hunting Club, and Boggy Swamp Hunting Club. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend.Mervin and Margaret were married on June 10, 1966 and celebrated 50 years together. Their home was blessed with: two children, Gregory “Greg” Mitchell (Lisa) Evans and DeeDee E. (Antonios) Kagias; six grandchildren, Tyler Evans, Brice (Julie) Lawshe, Kirby Evans, Ashley Evans, Stavros Kagias, and Sinclaire Kagias. He also leaves behind: a sister, Margie E. Miller.He was predeceased by: his parents; and two brothers, John Wayne Evans and Allen Evans.A Graveside Service was 2PM, Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the Ivy Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.The Evans family received family and friends prior to the service from 12-1:30PM at the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.McKenzie Funeral Home is honored to serve the Evans family.Samuel RuffinSamuel James “Jimmy” Ruffin, 94, of Andrews, the widower of Vera Cole Ruffin, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 5, 2017 at his residence.Mr. Ruffin was born the son of Thomas Edmonson Ruffin and Anna Belle Tomlinson Ruffin on December 30, 1922 in Lake City. He was a graduate of Olanta High School and attended The Citadel. He was a World War II Army Veteran. He played shortstop for the Lake City Truckers – a semi-pro team. Jimmy stated, “I worked 6 days a week at Tomlinson Groceries and played baseball 7 nights a week. And I got paid to play baseball.” In 1954, he and Vera moved to Andrews to start Ruffin’s Department Store.
